About Us

Dalkey Community First Responders (Dalkey CFR) is a group of trained volunteers from the local community who assist the National Ambulance Service (NAS) in responding to life-threatening emergency calls such as chest pain, cardiac arrest, stroke and choking within a 5km radius of Dalkey.

We cover Dalkey, Glasthule, Glenageary, Killiney, Sallynoggin and Sandycove.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life. Prior medical experience is not required. Full training in CPR and the use of Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) is provided before any volunteer attends a call with an experienced responder.

Founded in 2014 with the support of several local organisations and community groups, Dalkey CFR was established with the support of the Irish Red Cross. In its early development, the Irish Red Cross provided essential assistance including initial training, equipment provision, governance structures, financial infrastructure, administrative systems, and volunteer support frameworks.

Dalkey CFR continues to operate as a unit of the Irish Red Cross in Dun Laoghaire–Rathdown, which provides governance and administrative support including financial management, training, safeguarding and child protection systems, Garda vetting and volunteer administration. Clinical training standards are set by the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC), and operational dispatch and call oversight are provided by the National Ambulance Service. This structure helps ensure the safety, sustainability and longevity of our volunteer first responder service.
